Mineral-insulated heating cables

for particularly demanding requirements

Mineral-insulated heating cables are primarily used in applications that require particularly high temperatures. This is the case, for example, in the chemical, petrochemical and oil and gas industries. Unlike plastic resistance heating cables or self-regulating heating cables, mineral-insulated heating cables can withstand temperatures of up to 1000°C. Furthermore, these highly durable heating cables can be used for process heating and temperature maintenance on pipework, vessels, cryogenic storage tanks, power stations, machinery and plant. The ‘Clean Laser Seal’ (CSL) technology also offers the best possible technical protection against stress corrosion cracking, particularly in the presence of aggressive chemicals such as leachable chlorides or high sulphur content.

"Clean Laser Seal" technology

The “Clean Laser Seal” technology ensures a homogeneous and 100% stable system, thereby guaranteeing exceptionally high performance and consistently reliable operation. In addition, CLS offers the best possible technical protection against stress corrosion cracking when used with, for example, particularly aggressive chemicals (such as leachable chlorides or high sulphur content).

Protection against corrosion, fire and extreme temperatures

As well as providing protection against corrosive chemicals, MI cables can withstand temperatures of up to 1000 °C and, thanks to their outer sheath, are both moisture- and heat-resistant. This resistance is a particularly important safety feature in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Where are MI cables used for electric trace heating?

Mineral-insulated heating cables are used, amongst other things, in the chemical and petrochemical industries, as well as in the oil and gas sector. Furthermore, these moisture-resistant heating cables can be used for process heating and temperature maintenance on pipework, vessels, cryogenic storage tanks, power stations, machinery and plant. CLS technology also guarantees the highest level of resistance to chemicals.

How are MI cables constructed?

Mineral-insulated heating cables are manufactured exclusively from high-quality nickel/chromium alloy 825 or stainless steel 1.4541 and are custom-assembled. The heating cable consists of a heating conductor, the mineral insulation and the outer sheath. MI cables are available in both single-core and twin-core versions (single and twin) and feature mineral-insulated cold conductor terminals. The free end of the cold conductor is seamlessly sealed and connected to a flexible supply cable. The diameter corresponds to that of the cold conductor plus a 1.5 mm² earth connection. At each end of the cold conductor, there is also a compression sleeve made of flame-resistant stainless steel.
