Sustainability
An issue that affects us all
Sustainable practices are essential in today’s world. For us, sustainable practices mean giving equal priority to economic, social and environmental objectives in the long term: we want to create lasting value, whilst enabling good working conditions and treating the environment with care.
Our value chain – sustainable in every respect
Our products and system solutions are precisely engineered, accurately calibrated and energy-efficient. We use efficient, resource-conserving manufacturing technologies, and the intelligent recycling of production waste helps us to achieve the sustainability targets we have set ourselves. We manufacture using green electricity and meet a significant proportion of our electricity requirements from our own photovoltaic system. We also achieve a steady reduction in emissions through the use of an electric vehicle fleet and by air-conditioning our offices at the Burbach site using heat pumps. We continuously adapt our manufacturing processes to improve efficiency and are increasingly relying on reusable or recyclable packaging.
Our renewable energy applications
For years, we have been working on applications in the field of renewable energy. We equip CSP (Concentrated Solar Power) plants, thereby contributing to the green electrification of the world. Our products and systems also play a crucial role in the storage of thermal energy. When it comes to green hydrogen (where electricity generated from solar energy is stored as hydrogen, an energy carrier), eltherm offers comprehensive system solutions. Our many years of experience in the field of liquefied gas/LNG storage can be easily applied to the transport and storage of hydrogen. We support precise exhaust gas analysis in large-scale plants or merchant ships using our custom-made heating hoses. Our heating cables are also used on the rotor blades of wind turbines to prevent icing. We are also increasingly turning to halogen-free heating cables and are working on replacing PFAS substances with suitable alternatives.
Responsibility for the region
Our connection to our region is particularly important to us. We make a conscious effort to work with local suppliers and service providers in order to strengthen the regional economy and ensure short supply chains. Through this close-knit network, we aim to support sustainable development in the local area and have a positive impact on the community.
However, our responsibility extends beyond environmental considerations. As a company with deep roots in the region, we are also committed to social causes. We support local educational projects and social initiatives to promote the well-being of the community. For us, sustainability means not only protecting the ecological balance, but also ensuring the well-being of local people.
The ‘eWald’ is a labour of love
A project particularly close to our hearts is the reforestation of a woodland area in Burbach. We recognise the importance of forests for ecological balance, climate protection and the conservation of biodiversity. Through this project, we aim to play an active role in protecting and regenerating the forest as a valuable ecosystem. By planting trees, we are not only helping to offset CO₂ emissions, but also creating a habitat for many animal species and improving air quality. That is why we have taken on sponsorship of the eWald.
Why we campaign for trees:
- They filter our water and the air
- They store climate-damaging CO₂ and produce oxygen
- They provide a habitat for countless animals and plants
- They provide wood, a sustainable raw material
- They protect against flooding
For these reasons, it is a matter particularly close to eltherm’s heart to sponsor the management of a section of woodland in Burbach. To ensure that the damaged areas in Burbach are reforested, eltherm has provided the funds for the reforestation of 1 hectare of woodland.
Our Code of Conduct
Sustainable business practices are a clear strategic guideline for INDUS Holding AG
At INDUS, each subsidiary follows its own path. What unites us, however, is a shared understanding of our values. This is also reflected in our joint Code of Conduct. The INDUS Code of Conduct covers all areas of our sustainability strategy and, as a voluntary commitment, goes well beyond existing legal requirements. eltherm is aware of its role as a responsible member of society and, consequently, of its responsibility towards customers, business partners and employees. We are committed to upholding this responsibility. We are therefore committed to principles of conduct that are strictly derived from this awareness. These principles form the framework for both our business and our social actions.
The actions of our company’s management and our employees are guided by the principles of personal responsibility, integrity, loyalty and respect for fellow human beings and the environment. Management bears a particular responsibility for ensuring compliance with these principles. Together with our employees, the management strives for business success. In line with our principles as a medium-sized enterprise, we aim to generate a return from our economic activities that is sustainable and commensurate with our business potential. We aim to nurture the strengths and competitive advantages we have built up over the years and to measure our standards of quality and performance against the very best at all times.

Photovoltaics is a key step on the path to climate neutrality. We are committed to combating climate change and are making an important contribution to sustainability. We are taking steps to generate our own electricity. Using renewable energy and making the switch to sustainability – that is our core message in this project. eltherm is planning to install a photovoltaic system on the roofs of the sewing workshop and the special-purpose building for its own consumption and to feed surplus electricity into the grid.
The transition to e-mobility in our vehicle fleet, which is already underway, will be consistently pursued. By introducing further electric and hybrid vehicles, we are significantly reducing the fleet’s emissions. To this end, we are continuing to adapt our charging infrastructure to the growing use of e-mobility within the company. Our aim is to achieve a proportion of electric vehicles within the company of more than 65 per cent by the end of 2025.
eltherm staff have free and unlimited access to drinks (mineral water). To avoid large amounts of waste or harmful substances, the bottles are made of glass. Glass bottles are 100% recyclable and can be reprocessed or reused after use.
At eltherm, the health of our staff is a top priority. E-bikes not only promote good health, but also offer flexibility and are environmentally friendly. eltherm not only allows staff to lease an e-bike for personal use, but also provides a secure, theft-proof parking facility during working hours.
