1. Data protection – simple and concise:

Data protection is about protecting you from the misuse of your data.

When you visit a website, data is transmitted which the website owner knows full well belongs to you. This data is known as personal data. This is always the case, including on our site. We want (and need) to explain to you exactly what happens. As this can result in quite a long text even with just a small amount of data, here is the most important information in a nutshell:

1.5 What data is involved?

Firstly, there is technical data that is always collected when you visit a website: IP address, date and time, type of request, amount of data transferred, browser type, operating system, language, referring website. As mentioned, this is always the case.

In addition, we also use small pieces of information that we store on your computer to make it easier for you to use the site. These are known as cookies. This is usually the case and is necessary to ensure you can use our website conveniently. However, you can also disable them (via your browser settings). In that case, however, the site will not function as well.

If you enter data on our website – for example, to create an account, subscribe to a newsletter or get in touch with us – we will use that data exclusively for the specific purpose in question.

We do not require your consent for any of these processes (which we refer to as ‘processing’). Should we intend to use the data for any other purpose, we will ask for your consent.

We will ask for such consent right at the start, immediately after you visit the page, via a so-called consent tool. Here, you can also find out exactly what data we require, for what purpose, how it is collected and how long we store it. By changing the settings in this consent tool, you can withdraw any consent you have given at any time.

As a general rule, we store all data for as long as we need it for the respective purpose, and only for longer if we are required to do so by law. Where a specific time period can be stated, you will find this in the text below.

2.1 Information on the collection of personal data

 

2.1.1 Contacting us 

When you contact us by email or via a contact form, we will store the data you provide (your email address, and, where applicable, your name and telephone number) in order to answer your enquiries. We will delete the data collected in this context once storage is no longer necessary, or restrict its processing if statutory retention obligations apply. The legal basis is your enquiry or contact (Article 6(1)(b) or (f) of the GDPR).

 

2.2 Collection of personal data by and on our behalf when you visit our website

 

2.2.1 Data processed as a matter of course

When you use the website purely for information purposes – that is, if you do not register or otherwise provide us with information – we only collect the personal data that your browser transmits to our server. If you wish to view our website, we collect the following data, which is technically necessary for us to display our website to you and to ensure its stability and security (on the basis of Article 6(1), first sentence, point (f) of the GDPR):

• Date and time of the request
• Time zone difference from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT)
• Content of the request (specific page)
• Access status/HTTP status code
• Amount of data transferred in each instance
• Website from which the request originates
• Browser
• Operating system and its user interface

2.3 Newsletter

If you have registered for it, you will receive our newsletter. (You may also receive this regardless of whether you have registered; in that case, you will find the relevant information in the privacy policy for third parties.) The sending of the newsletter following registration is based on Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR.

We use the so-called double opt-in procedure for subscribing to our newsletter. This means that, following your registration, we will send an email to the email address you provided, asking you to confirm that you wish to receive the newsletter. If you do not confirm your subscription within 24 hours, your details will be blocked and automatically deleted after one month. In addition, we store the IP addresses you use and the times of your registration and confirmation. The purpose of this procedure is to verify your registration and, if necessary, to investigate any potential misuse of your personal data.

The only mandatory information required to receive the newsletter is your email address. Following your confirmation, we will store your email address for the purpose of sending you the newsletter, unless it is the same email address that we also use for normal communication within the context of our contractual relationship with you. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR.

You may withdraw your consent to receive the newsletter at any time and unsubscribe from it. You can withdraw your consent by clicking on the link provided in every newsletter email or by sending a message to the contact details given in the legal notice. If you have provided a separate email address specifically for receiving the newsletter, we will delete it.

Please note that, if you have given your consent, we will analyse your user behaviour when sending the newsletter. For this analysis, the emails sent contain so-called web beacons or tracking pixels, which are single-pixel image files stored on our website. For the purposes of this analysis, we link the web beacons to your email address and a unique ID. The data is collected exclusively in pseudonymised form; the IDs are therefore not linked to your other personal data, and direct personal identification is ruled out.

You can object to this tracking at any time by withdrawing your consent via the consent tool. The information is stored for as long as you remain subscribed to the newsletter. Once you have unsubscribed, we store the data purely for statistical purposes and in an anonymous form. Furthermore, such tracking is not possible if you have disabled the display of images by default in your email programme. In this case, the newsletter will not be displayed in full and you may not be able to use all its features. If you choose to display the images manually, the tracking described above will take place.

 

2.4 Social media content

If you have given us your consent via the consent tool displayed when the website loads, we use the social media services you have authorised to display content from the relevant social media platforms on our website. In doing so, personal data is also passed on to these social media providers. This consent constitutes a legal basis within the meaning of Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR and authorisation under Section 25(1) of the TTDSG.

Depending on the consent you have given via the Consent Tool, we also use plug-ins from social media providers that allow you to switch to these platforms quickly. In doing so, we use the so-called ‘two-click’ solution. This means that simply visiting our website does not result in any personal data being passed on to the plug-in providers. This only occurs once you have activated the plug-in by clicking on it. In this case, the data specified in section 2.2.1 of this policy will be transmitted.

2.5 Website analysis

To analyse activity on the website, we use a web analytics service, provided you have given your consent. The statistics obtained enable us to improve our website and make it more interesting for you as a user. The legal basis for this use is Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR and Section 25(1) of the TTDSG.

 

2.5.1 Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC (“Google”), on the basis of your consent, provided you have given it to us at the outset (Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR). Google uses cookies. The information generated by the cookie regarding users’ use of the online service is usually transmitted to a Google server in the USA and stored there. Google is covered by the EU–US data privacy framework and thereby guarantees compliance with European data protection law.

Google will use this information on our behalf to evaluate how users use our website, to compile reports on activity within the website, and to provide us with other services relating to the use of this website and internet usage. In doing so, pseudonymous user profiles may be created from the processed data. We only use Google Analytics with IP anonymisation enabled. This means that users’ IP addresses are truncated by Google within Member States of the European Union or in other signatory states to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases is the full IP address transmitted to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. The IP address transmitted by the user’s browser is not merged with other data held by Google. Users can prevent the storage of cookies by adjusting the settings in their browser software accordingly; users may also prevent Google from collecting the data generated by the cookie and relating to their use of the online service, as well as the processing of this data by Google, by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available via the following link: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Further information on Google’s use of data, as well as options for settings and opting out, can be found in Google’s Privacy Policy (https://policies.google.com/technologies/ads) and in the settings for the display of adverts by Google (https://adssettings.google.com/authenticated). Users’ personal data is deleted or anonymised after 14 months.

 

2.5.2 Google AdSense / GA Audience

If you have given your consent, this website uses the online advertising service Google AdSense / GA Audience, which enables us to present you with adverts tailored to your interests. When you visit our website, Google receives information that you have accessed our website. It is possible that this data may be passed on to Google’s contractual partners, third parties and public authorities. The legal basis for the processing of your data is Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR. 2.5.3 DoubleClick by Google

If you have given your consent, this website uses the online marketing tool DoubleClick by Google. DoubleClick uses cookies to display adverts relevant to users, to improve campaign performance reports, or to prevent a user from seeing the same adverts multiple times. Using a cookie ID, Google tracks which adverts are displayed in which browser and can thus prevent them from being shown multiple times. Furthermore, DoubleClick can use cookie IDs to track so-called ‘conversions’ relating to ad requests. This is the case, for example, when a user sees a DoubleClick advert and later visits the advertiser’s website using the same browser and makes a purchase there. According to Google, DoubleClick cookies do not contain any personal information. We nevertheless require your consent in accordance with the provisions of Section 25 of the TTDSG. The legal basis for the processing of your data is therefore Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR. 2.5.4 Google AdWords Conversion Tracking

If you have given your consent, we use the online advertising programme ‘Google AdWords’ and, as part of Google AdWords, conversion tracking. Google Conversion Tracking is an analytics service provided by Google Inc. (1600 Amphitheatre Parkway, Mountain View, CA 94043, USA; “Google”). When you click on an advert placed by Google, a conversion tracking cookie is stored on your computer. These cookies expire after 30 days, do not contain any personal data and therefore cannot be used to identify you personally. We nevertheless require your consent in accordance with the provisions of Section 25 of the TTDSG. The legal basis for the processing of your data is therefore Article 6(1)(a) of the GDPR.

 

2.5.5 Leadinfo

We use the lead generation service provided by Leadinfo B.V., Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This service recognises visits to our website by businesses based on IP addresses and displays publicly available information to us, such as company names or addresses. In addition, Leadinfo sets two first-party cookies to analyse user behaviour on our website and processes domains from form submissions (e.g. ‘leadinfo.com’) in order to correlate IP addresses with companies and improve its services. Further information can be found at www.leadinfo.com. You can opt out on this page: www.leadinfo.com/en/opt-out. If you opt out, your data will no longer be collected by Leadinfo.

3. Processing based on your consent

As previously mentioned, when you first visited our website, we used a so-called consent tool to ask for your consent to the use of various services. These may include, for example, services that provide specific fonts for our website, enable you to navigate our site or, as also briefly mentioned above, establish a connection to social media channels or allow us to analyse website activity. The services for which we seek your consent are subject to change. What they all have in common is this: we will only use them if we have your consent and will cease using them immediately if you withdraw that consent. This so-called withdrawal applies only to the future; data already collected will not be deleted but will be processed within the scope of the consent given.
