Oil / palm oil
Oil and palm oil are essential to the cooking process in the food and beverage industry, but they present manufacturers and food processing companies with a number of challenges. These include having a tight temperature tolerance and a propensity to degrade or lower the quality or viscosity if temperatures are not correctly maintained. Oil and palm oil also need to be transported to and from various parts of the processing plant whilst remaining at a specific temperature. eltherm provides also custom heating solutions for transport tankers.
The production of good quality chocolate products requires that the chocolate be kept in a molten state during various stages of the manufacturing process without degrading due to temperature fluctuations which also negatively impact transportability and viscosity and play a part if altering moisture content.
Glucose syrups are widely used in the food and beverage industry and are a key ingredient in confectionery products, beer, soft drinks, sports drinks, jams, sauces and ice creams among others. To maintain their quality and viscosity they must be kept within strict temperature constraints. Any pipe or tank containing these glucose-infused products usually requires heat tracing.
In 1864, French scientist Louis Pasteur discovered that heating beer and wine to a certain temperature prevented these beverages from turning sour over time because it killed off most of the bacteria that caused spoilage. This process is particularly successful in preventing or delaying spoilage in dairy products, especially milk, which is an excellent medium for microbial growth. In fact, improperly handled raw milk is responsible for nearly three times more hospitalisations than any other food-borne disease outbreak, making it one of the world’s most dangerous food products. Pasteurization prevents a lot of diseases and electric heat tracing is a commonly used system to assist in dealing with this issue.
