The cement industry is one of the most energy-intensive sectors of all. In production, temperatures of more than 1000°C have to be generated and permanently maintained. Careful and economical use of the energy-generating fuel is therefore of great importance.
The furnaces are usually fired with oil, gas or coal, but secondary fuels such as used tires, used chemicals, residual waste, etc. are also increasingly being burned. Here, the efforts for exhaust gas purification and energy saving are correspondingly great and are constantly being optimized.
In a cement plant, residual waste is burned as secondary fuel. The less moisture it contains, the higher its quality. The moisture content of the waste is therefore an important parameter for the energy balance of the plant and is therefore constantly monitored.
For this purpose, material is diverted from the waste transport line and conveyed to another smaller container. There, the waste is shredded and filled into laboratory vessels for further analysis.
This container is located in the area of waste delivery or transport, and therefore in an unheated area.
Especially in the colder season, there is a risk of the waste freezing in the container due to its moisture content. This would make sampling and continuous sample analysis no longer possible. For this reason, the container must be heated.
In this case, the engineers of eltherm GmbH took care of the optimal design of the heating; and also the planning of the installation of the heating cables (ELKM-AG-L) and the insulation. From the production and delivery of the required material to the installation of the complete heating system at the customer's facility - all work was carefully completed.
